KOCAÇAY lX is based on the RAstar 3200SX design developed especially for the Turkish tug-builder and operator by Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd, with a specific focus on meeting an individual client’s customisation requirements.

The tug’s design is primarily intended for demanding escort operations in exposed areas where exceptional seakeeping capabilities are essential. Following its launch, she will now undergo extensive sea trials.

Measuring 32m LOA, with a moulded breadth of 13m, moulded depth of 5.35m and maximum draft of 6m, and featuring an 83-ton towing capacity like its sister vessel BLASCO delivered in 2023, she has a hull design that significantly improves towing and seakeeping performance, as indicated by model and full-scale tests.

Rüçhan Çıvgın, Commercial Director of Sanmar Shipyards, said: “These are technologically-advanced and heavy-duty tugboats that can take the most harsh conditions in their stride. It is always a proud moment when a new vessel leaves the dry land of the shipyard and greets the sea for the first time.

“Once again, it is extremely pleasing when a long-term customer such as Rimorchiatori Laziali returns to us for a new project.”
