The Turkish tug and workboat builder and operator has had a close professional relationship with ABS for around 30 years, during which time it has built some of the most technologically advanced and innovative vessels on the international market.

This has most recently included the development of Sanmar’s industry-leading low and no emission tugs designed for a new era of environmentally-friendly and sustainable tug and towing operations, involving the use of alternative power sources such as LNG, battery electric, and methanol.

The ceremony on May 17 was held at Sanmar’s purpose-built environmentally-aware shipyard facilities in Turkiye, and was attended by ABS Senior Vice President Global Business Development, Vassilios Kroustallis, who presented Chairman of Sanmar’s Board of Directors, Ali Gürün, with a gift.

Founded in 1862, ABS is a global leader in providing classification services for marine and offshore assets and today applies advanced technology, digital tools, capabilities, and improved core processes to drive safety excellence, greater performance, and efficiency.

Ali Gürün said: “I was delighted to welcome our friends from ABS to join us at this event to celebrate another milestone in our ongoing very close and successful business relationship. ABS has worked with us on the development of some of the most important vessels in the history of our industry. We are proud that we have come this far together and achieved so much.”
