PIS, the shipping arm of the nation's top energy giant, has been revealed as the Asian entity securing an order for 15 MR product tankers, each with a capacity of 50,000 deadweight tons (dwt), from Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan.

Brokers estimate the deal to be valued at nearly $720 million, with the order diversified into three categories. According to information from Clarksons, the series will consist of five firm clean product carriers, five dirty product tankers, and five IMO type 2/3 chemical/product units.

Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, in a stock exchange filing, has outlined the delivery schedule for these newbuilds, spanning from the first quarter of 2026 to the fourth quarter of the same year.

This strategic move aligns with PIS's ongoing expansion plans, aiming to bolster its fleet to approximately 130 tankers by 2025. The 15 MR product tankers are a key element of this growth strategy, further solidifying Pertamina International Shipping's position in the global shipping industry.
