The vessel, named AK DISCOVERY, encountered engine room fire complications while en route from Egypt to Bulgaria, leading to the intervention of coastal safety teams. As a result, ship traffic in the strategic waterway was swiftly halted to ensure safety measures could be enacted.

Rescue efforts were promptly mobilized, with tugboats KURTARMA-3, KURTARMA-13, and TÜRKELİ, along with a pilot and KIYEM-1 fast rescue boat, dispatched to the scene to assist the distressed vessel.

Amidst the operation, one injured crew member out of the total 14 on board the ship was safely evacuated. The intervention to combat the fire continues as authorities work to mitigate the situation and restore normalcy to maritime traffic in the Dardanelles Strait.
